Email No 73 - Ingrown toe nail removed... no anaesthetic!

Mauri Mumma,

That’s cool as you got to go to Sydney and see all those cool people.. But Kent was the coolest person you saw... lol! Man I’m so jealous you got to see Kenty.

Ohhh that’s sweet as that you're still feeding the Elders heaps… even though we're in a new ward. Man, I’m hungry right now... I haven’t had breakfast ... Can you please make me banana bacon and cheese on toast?!?!! Oooooooooohhhhhhhh mylanta that would be amazing right now! 6 months :)

So this week I had surgery on my toe... lol! I had an ingrown toe nail...and so the nurse here said we have to fix it up cz it was getting bad and had an infection... but we didn’t have any anaesthetic numbing stuff so she numbed it with ice and cut my toenail down to the back and then pulled it out and then there were little bits of nail stuck in my toe so she had to pull all of them out too... There were like 5 pieces total... cool stuff... It hurt like hell though... Mumma… I yelled like a man haha!! Then she says… alright I think we've got it all and I was sooo relieved… but then she kept searching and found more bits lol... Oh it sucked but I’m glad it’s over.... So now I have about half a toe nail.

We had a baptism too :) we baptised a girl and now her whole family is having lessons. Her Mum’s less active and her Dad is the man and it should be sweet as teaching them. And Tonganibeia's son got baptised too so that was cool... Not much else has happened so yeah... I haven’t got my package yet but it could be at Moroni High already but we haven’t gone there yet so I’ll see later on in the afternoon.

Love you Mumma... Send my love to Dad and the rest of the fams... Hope you all have a great week :)

Email No. 72 - They just celebrated Independance Week

Mauri

I can’t believe Jess didn’t go! Is she doing okay? I gave a girl who went to the MTC on Thursday a present for Sister Cameron and now she’s gonna get there and have no one to give it too ha ha!... Oh well... ana bure ane. Can you please tell her to email me... oh and tell I love her… even though she hasn’t written to me for ages!

Thanks for the heads up on the pre-apprenticeship thing :) I guess I can get an extension if President asks me then :) … that’s all he wanted to know if it was possible for me to... He doesn’t know yet if he wants me to get one... but I dunno ... we'll see when it gets closer.

Well I’m doing alright here... just working away... me and Elder Lowry are doing good work here.. The ward is good as... I’ve been here for almost six months now haha.. Crazy as... time flies. We haven’t gone over the transfers yet cz this one coming hasn’t been done so I still don’t know… but I could be out of Zone Leader the transfer after this one?? I dunno... we'll see.... and I will pray!

We've just started working with the ward again.. (properly)... We’ve been going to ward councils and what not and it’s really paying off cz the members are loving us more and more... my companion Elder Lowry will get transferred though cz he’s going to train for the rest of his mission... He finishes in October I think.

We just had Independence week here... It was cool as :) they had heaps of things going on... boxing, wrestling, beauty contest, talent shows, singing competitions... heaps of stuff... obviously we weren’t allowed to go watch them all but we were lucky because we set up a booth so we can hand out pamphlets :) It was pretty good... we got a lot of referrals and we got to see some of the activities that went on… it was cool as.

I don’t have much to say this week... I sent Steven and Courtney’s letter off to them today... Sent a couple of photos too... I know.. I finally did it... I wrote a letter.. :) haha!
It’ll be cool as when I go to outer islands. We can still write letters when I’m on outies by the way... but sometimes the letters don’t get sent out to outer islands. They just sit here until we go out there or they come in or something like that... But I’ll try write to you I promise... I can’t say much for anyone else though… so tell them I’m sorry but you’re the most important one!

I love you Mumma.. Say hi to Dad and the rest of the fams... Tell em I love em... I hope everythings all good there... You are all always in my prayers...

Email No 71 - I was working with another Melbourner, Elder Morton.. I love working with Aussies.

Mauri Mumma,

Yeah that was a sweet baptism... and you’re right.. I should keep a journal, but I’m not the best at the whole journal thing... I try write when big things happen and that will have to do.

The names here are weird and confusing.. Nei means miss and Ten means Mr and when people get married the wife usually changes her last name to the first name of her husband. But sometimes not... I hope that made sense.

I was working with another Melbourner, Elder Morton... I love working with Aussies... They live in Skye. We were kind of in two areas so that’s why I was sounding all over the place last week... But now I’m back in my area with Elder Lowry.... He’s good to work with and we've been working really well together and we're having success.. and having fun. 

Hey Ma, I have a question about the after mission life... When President had an interview with me he wanted to know if I was to possibly extend would it effect anything back home... So could you please do some research on trade school… how I can get into plumbing and everything and if I need to be back by a certain date to start school??

Thank you Mumma...

Not much is happening... But I love you all... Be good...

Email No 70 - The carpet was so thick... I had to lay on it :)

Mauri Mumma

Well, the Steeds are gone... The new couple is Elder and Sister Perkins... They are okay... they are going to be strict… but they're real nice as well. You two will be a cool mission couple... I’ll give you a tip... The way to win the missionaries hearts is to have food all the time... And drinks... Well that’s how it is here anyway and my guess is you won’t have any problems with that! :)

I can’t believe you have both been sick! I will make sure I pray for both of you... I don’t want you suffering at old age... Poor ducklings!

The house sounds cool... you in a small kitchen is kind of hard to imagine. I’m sure you’d fall over if you saw the size of the kitchens here... Well most of them are kinda big because they are the living room as well... and the bedroom...!!!!

So this week was pretty cool... We had a baptism... Nei Kaaua... Her husband baptised her... Ten Tonganibeia... He’s a person we just baptised so it’s cool that he got to baptise his wife :) and now they want their son to get baptised... Cool stuff. Also me and Elder Morton were back together for the past few days... President is here and we had Zone Conference on Wednesday... and Thursday... Friday and Saturday and Sunday we went out to outer islands with President and Sister Shaw... me and Elder Morton only went to one outer island on Saturday... but it was the best one... Tabiteuea North... It’s so big! Elder Van Dyken served there so I already knew some people who we met here on Tarawa when they had come here to visit and stuff... So it was cool to see them again. President went to all the outer islands and had a bit of a meeting with the members there... It was cool.

I think that what you were talking about missionaries who leave Kiribati to serve overseas... it can swing both ways... Some will love to see all the big things outside of Kiribati and miss it all when they return but I think most just love to come back to live their lives from before ... but better because they no more! So simple and so chill... Kiribati people are sooooo cool!

I forgot to tell you when I went to the Mission home in Majuro, they had nice as couches and tables and a huge kitchen. Upstairs the carpet is so thick and I just had to lay down on it when I saw it :) Hha Hha I got funny looks from Pressy and Sister Shaw! When I am living without those things it doesn’t bother me not having them… but when I saw carpet it made me think of how lucky we are at home!

Joseph and Lucy are sounding very cool... while I’ve been with Elder Morton... We've been going to one of his families houses ... They are such a cool family... All members.. There’s one kid he’s like 1 year and something months old... His name is Tonaeka and he’s the coolest kid in the world I’ve only heard him cry once in my whole time with him... and now he calls out my name and stuff ahahha... He’s the man! But it makes me wonder what little Joey is like and how cute our little Lucy must be!

There’s an old lady there too, her name is Karo and she’s the coolest old lady and shell give the missionaries anything... And she acts like your actual grandma :) She’s awesome.. I love that house... I hope I get a chance to work there at the end of my mission :)

I’m now with Elder Lowry from Canada... He’s pretty cool... we are going to work really hard with the ward while we’re together, but I’m not sure how long that will be.

I think that’s all for now... I love you Mumma... And Dad too, tell him I love him... Tell the fams... and the friends…and I miss you all... Be good and look after yourself.

Love from Elder Nye xoxoxo
